At Heath Primary School, our ambition is for our children to become healthy, independent and responsible citizens. We nurture and value every child as an individual, and promote an environment that celebrates equality and diversity. We aim to help them understand their own personal, social and physical development, whilst tackling many of the moral, social and cultural issues they may encounter. We encourage our pupils to discuss and consider their feelings, and the feelings of others to enable them to become empathetic, understanding, respectful and tolerant citizens who are aware of their rights and responsibilities. Our pupils explore what it means to be part of a community. They do this by playing an active role in the school and wider community, through events organised by our Year 6 children, school ambassadors, school council, eco council and road safety officers.
In RSE, children explore the emotional, social and physical aspects of growing up with a relevant, age appropriate and broad curriculum. We aim to create a positive ethos around the issues of relationships, sexuality and puberty. Our pupils understand there are a diverse range of relationships and families, and learn how to behave responsibly within relationships. Our approach to teaching RSE helps equip our pupils with the skills needed to help them be emotionally and socially ready for life beyond Heath Primary School.
